The objective of promoting a physically active lifestyle is to encourage Nunavimmiut to be active in various ways and thus contribute to their life-long well-being.

Physical Activity and Child Development

Children develop the skills that will prove useful throughout their lives through play and various physical activities.

Aides were created to ensure diversity in the activities proposed by day-care educators.

  • Timiapiga

Timiapiga—My healthy little body—is a set of 18 cards designed for children aged 6 to 18 months. They illustrate exercises performed by children and educators in order to develop basic physical skills. The cards were developed in partnership with the Kativik Regional Government’s early-childhood department in 2013. They are available in all the Nunavik day-cares.

  • Timiga

Timiga—My body—is a set of 30 cards designed for children aged 18 months to four years. They illustrate exercises based on yoga positions that target various motor skills. The names of certain positions were modified as a nod to elements found in the region, such as the polar bear and the seal. The cards were developed in partnership with the Kativik Regional Government’s early-childhood department in 2012. They are available in all the Nunavik day-cares.
