Supporting Inuit families caring for loved ones with disabilities
About Lilly's Fund
Lilly's Fund is a financial assistance program created by Makivvik Corporation to support Inuit families caring for a person living with a severe and permanent physical or intellectual disability.
The fund recognizes the important role families play in providing daily care and support and helps offset some of the additional costs associated with caregiving.
The program was named in honour of Lilly Mina of Inukjuak, whose advocacy helped raise awareness of the challenges faced by Inuit families caring for loved ones with disabilities.
Who is eligible?
Applicants must:
- Be beneficiaries of the James Bay and Northern Quebec Agreement (JBNQA)
- Be living with a severe and permanent physical or intellectual disability
- Be 64 years of age or younger
Parents or guardians may apply on behalf of eligible children.
Financial assistance
Eligible families may receive financial support to help address the additional costs associated with caregiving and disability-related needs. You may find more details about the amount directly on the Makivvik website
How to apply
If you or your child receive the Canada Disability Tax Credit or the Child Disability Benefit:
- Complete the application form available on the Makivvik website and send it to Lillysfund@makivvik.ca along with a proof of eligibility to the Disability Tax Credit or benefit.
If you do not receive the federal disability benefits, a health professional will have to assess if you meet the ‘severe and permanent disability’ criteria using the APSC assessment.
- Go to your local CLSC and request an assessment for Lillys fund with a doctor. If you already receive support from social services, they can also complete the assessment.
