Nunavik Elder Safety Day

The NRBHSS’ mandate includes raising awareness about elder wellness and the mistreatment of adults in vulnerable situations. Each year, we organize two regional campaigns—Elder Safety Day in June and Nunavik Elders Day in October—to inform, engage and inspire people and communities across Nunavik. We also produce and distribute awareness-raising tools and a newsletter in support of ongoing education and dialogue.

Nunavik Elder Safety Day Campaign: United for the Safety and Wellness of Our Elders

Every year on June 15th, the Nunavik Regional Board of Health and Social Services (NRBHSS) organizes the Elder Safety Day Campaign, a regional initiative aimed at raising awareness about elder mistreatment and celebrating the essential role of elders in our communities.

A shared responsibility

Mistreatment of elders can take many forms—emotional, physical, psychological, or financial—and often goes unnoticed or unspoken. Whether you're a family member, caregiver, neighbour or friend, you have a role to play in making sure elders are treated with the care, dignity and respect they deserve.

2025 Campaign highlights

This year’s campaign includes a range of activities and resources to help inform, engage and mobilize communities across Nunavik:

  • Mass mailing: Every Nunavik household will receive a vinyl decal with information on signs of mistreatment and support resources.
  • Facebook campaign: A two-week digital campaign featuring information and resources regarding elder safety and community care will be held on our Facebook page.
  • Elder-focused workshop: Planning and programming agents offered a two-part workshop titled "Towards the Wellness, Respect, and Safety of Our Elders" to various community organizations throughout the month of June.
